Jim McCabe's front 9 musings

1 – How do you like it?

Having a few par 4s – like Nos. 5 and 11 at Augusta National – that most PGA Tour lads can’t reach doesn’t bother me at all. Welcome to our world.

2 – Soft beats spin

Watching a polished player “dead-arm” a soft 9-iron onto a green from 130 yards is far cooler and more attractive than seeing a guy spinning a wedge shot back 15 feet.

3 – The man could ball-strike it

Which is another way of saying Tom Watson was a joy to watch.

4 – Gnomes, Gnomes, and more Gnomes

Delta Airlines officials reported that 526,329 Gnomes boarded flights out of Atlanta the day after the Masters ended.

5 – Enjoy the one before you count more

Before you start chalking up Scottie Scheffler to a flurry of major wins, consider this: Justin Thomas won the PGA in his 10th major but he is 0-for-16 since then in the big ones. The Masters was Scheffler’s 10th major.

6 – Hogan and Nelson et al would agree

Let’s face it, though, Texans wear Green Jackets very well.

7 – Would he be missed?

Should Tyrrell Hatton dislike Augusta National that much, the answer is simple. Stay home.

8 – Sad to say

I get into lag-putt mentality at about 15 feet.

9 – Especially a red one

Has any golfer ever really purchased a short-sleeve mock turtleneck?
