Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – Money gains

We haven’t even played the second major of the season and already 71 players have earned at least $1m on the PGA Tour.

2 – Doesn’t take much

Digest that, then absorb this: Nos. 70 and 71 on the money list, Keith Mitchell and Taylor Moore, have combined for $2,090,816 – and they’ve got one top 10 each.

3 – Yes, it is out of whack

So if you’re asking yourself, “How can the PGA Tour sustain this?” you’re asking an appropriate question.

4 – Staying focused is part of the game

The top of your backswing is no time to wonder if it’s possible you missed a belt loop that morning. But it at least explains how the sod ended up over the golf ball you were just trying to hit.

5 – Cleaning the crystal ball

Oh, that vision I had about Xander Schauffele slipping into the Green Jacket? What I meant was, that’s Xander Schauffele holding the Wanamaker Trophy this Sunday.

GOLF COURSE PHOTO -- Cheers to reader Allan Long of Colorado Springs, CO. He “gets it” when it comes to golf course photos and understands what tickles my fancy. He sent this photo in from Eisenhower Golf Club (Blue Course) at the U.S. Air Force Academy. “It made me chuckle,” he wrote, and indeed, I share that sentiment. As always, should you come across a photo that makes you smile, or laugh, send them along to jim@powerfades.com

6 – Poor editing

My auto correct always wants me to change the spelling of Schauffele . . . but it never thinks there’s anything curious about Xander.

7 – Get a grip

When a right-handed player puts his or her left hand on the low side, it’s left-hand low. At no point do the hands cross so it’s not cross-handed.

8 – Harsh programmers

Imagine the madness when the Microsoft Copilot Icon starts popping up on your golf scorecard when you submit it digitally. Click on “suggest ways to improve this document,” and you are liable to get this: Perhaps you should be at home, mowing the lawn.

9 – Not on the same page

The round of golf having ended, I was asked how things went. “I’m too shallow,” I said. She looked surprised “I’m not sure about that. Sometimes you can be profound.” I shook my head and replied, “I’m talking about my swing.”
