Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – Riddle me this

Should you not be playing deftly and successfully at 5,800-6,100 yards, what in the name of Ky Laffoon are you doing up at 6,400-6,700?

2 – But he’s back on Team Europe

Matt Fitzpatrick (1-7-0 in his three appearances) needs the Ryder Cup moved to The Country Club in the worst way.

3 – The way I see it

Where there’s a Will there’s a lad who didn’t want to be called Bill.

4 – Provincial stance

Being from Boston, just one week into the college football season I’m naturally asking: “When do we drop the puck?”

GOLF COURSE PHOTO -- Confession time. I lost the information for this photo, which brings a smile to my face. Love it. A reader sent it to me and while I cannot identify which course or which hole it is, it's clear that balls from the sixth fairway can come "whizzing" at you. Classic stuff. As always, should you come across a golf course photo that intrigues you, send it along to jim@powerfades.com. I'll try not to lose the information.

5 – Painful, but true

Golf Truism #37: The 15-footer for double-bogey is easier than the 4-footer for par.

6 – Woes find their niche

Just updating my calendar: Mondays seem to be my day for coming over the top, Thursdays are all about being unable to stay on a consistent swing path.

7 – Bad news travels fast

Nothing like being greeted by “heard you made a double-bogey from the middle of the fairway on 12” when you walk through the door. Apparently what happens at the course doesn’t stay at the course, eh?

8 – Easy, pal, with the macho net stuff

Golf Truism #22: It’s OK to put a little umph into announcing your “four for three,” but best to turn down the volume on the “six for five” stuff.

9 – You never go wrong with Links

Scotland or Ireland for a golf trip remains the ultimate either-choice-is-correct dilemma.
