Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – You can’t rush these shoes

Wild to read that Travis Matthews is selling a limited amount of Guinness golf shoes. Now if they truly are Guinness shoes you better place them on the floor and wait 10 minutes or so for them to settle before wearing.

2 – Not telling you what the other 9 are

The huge yellow scoreboard at the 18th hole of whichever club is hosting the Open Championship remains one of the 10 most beautiful sights in tournament golf.

3 – “Sch”

The Open Championship engraver is sort of getting used to these “Sch” winners. Schauffele last year, Scheffler this year. Take heart, Adam Schenk and Matti Schmid.

4 – Good grief, the cliches

Just wondering, but have these on-course reporters ever seen a putt or chip that wasn’t makeable?

GOLF COURSE PHOTOS -- Another in the series of photos that show how entertaining golf course signs can be. Located at the fifth tee at Highland Links in Truro, Mass. -- an exquisite 9-holer that is so links and so much fun -- you are asked to pay attention to the protocol to keep things safe. Should you have a photo from your golf course travels, forward to jim@powerfades.com.

5 – Sad stuff

Count me as disheartened every time there isn’t a “low amateur” at the Masters, U.S. Open, or Open Championship. It happened twice this year, at the Masters and Open.

6 – Kid’s on a roll

Bennett Scheffler has gotten into more winner’s circles than 97 percent of professional golfers – and he’s not even 2.

7 – You mean there’s more golf?

With the hype of the major championships having carried us through April, May, June, and July, it’s time to exhale. Unless, of course, you’re breathlessly waiting for the FedExCup playoffs – and methinks you are not.

8 – You’re packing your rain gear right now

Tell the truth, you’re thinking of booking an Irish golf get-away, aren’t you?

9 – He knows a good thing

Not bragging, but Scottie Scheffler plays a power fade.
