AMATEURS: Whitney Trimble and Brian Higgins combined to shoot 4-under 67 at the Hyannisport Club to secure medalist honors in the annual Seagulls Four-ball. Trimble and Higgins then won their first-round match as there are now eight teams alive in each of the six flights. Also advancing were the teams of Thomas McEntee and Matthew Cornuet, and Conor McCormack and Jeff Kinney, both of having qualified with 68s. Competition will resume this coming weekend.

MEN’S COLLEGIATE: At the Columbia Spring Invite in Springfield, Penn., Bryant College finished in a tie for fourth. Nick Piersall, a senior from Portland, Conn., shot 72-69 to finish tied for second and help the Bryant cause. Teammate Patrick Galleher (75-71) of Virginia finished joint 14th . . . . . It was a runaway victory for the University of Texas in the Augusta Haskins Award at Augusta CC in Augusta, Ga. Notre Dame finished fourth, with Andrew O’Leary of Norfolk (72-72-69) in a share of 14th and Davis Chatfield of Attleboro (221) tied for 36th. James Imai of Brookline, a junior for Northwestern was T-47 . . . . . Will Frodigh of Westwood shot 75-70-69 and was T-31 playing for Elon in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, N.C. Dartmouth was 13th, led by Jason Liu (70-67-71, T-8) of Windsor, Conn., and Mark Turner (69-76-71, T-46) of Swampscott . . . . . Patrick Welch, the University of Oklahoma senior with strong Rhode Island ties, shot 71-73-74 and finished T-11 in the Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines in Naples, Fla. In team play, the Sooners, who are ranked No. 1 in the country, finished fourth.
