Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – It needs to stop

Apparently, some folks just can’t let LIV Golf go away. The drip, drip, drip of zero-interest news stories at this point in time is insufferable.

2 – Ah, the answer is no

Honestly, is anyone really concerned about where Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann will play in 2027?

3 – Thinking out loud

I’m not sure I’ve ever had to yell, “Fore, left.”

4 – Cold shoulder

When you get the text that 53 degrees is too cold for golf, you know of one guy whose clubs have been tossed in the basement for the year.

5 – No hard and fast interpretation

It appears that the “leaf rule” can be applied in about three dozen manners, depending on whose golf ball is impacted.

GOLF COURSE PHOTO -- It's a sign that should bring a smile to your face and much appreciation for avid golfer (and supporter of "Power Fades") Mary Beth Heffernan for making sure it didn't slip through the cracks. The First Tee of Greater Charleston in South Carolina now has a nine-hole par-3 just for kids between the ages of 5 and 18 and my guess is we would all agree it's a wonderful thing. Should you come across a sign on a golf course that warms your spirits, send the picture to jim@powerfades and we'll spread some smiles.

6 – Pick a big number, any big number

When asked, “what did you make there?” sometimes I respond, “an insurmountable mess than I’d rather not discuss at this point in time.” Now whatever number goes on the scorecard next to my name is up to the pencil guy.

7 – Much ado about nothing

I stopped counting years ago but there are about two dozen meaningless categories of statistics when you look at a PGA Tour player’s on-line page.

8 – Deadline is in effect

The answer: July 17, 2027. The question: When is it OK to start talking about the 2027 Ryder Cup in my presence?

9 – New and old don’t mix

An absolute golden rule was told to me the other day and I am hereby adopting it for 2027. “One in, one out,” said a friend when I asked him how he decides if he wants another golf shirt. If he buys a new one, he has to discard of one already in the closet.
