Jim McCabe's front 9 musings . . .

1 – Some cliches need a rest

Someone has to officially retire the phrase “moving day” when we get to Saturday at a professional golf tournament. I volunteer. The phrase needs to go. It’s just tired.

2 – Then there’s this

If you’re on your smart phone while drinking smart water, how can you possibly make a wrong decision?

3 – Cheers to a star

Ken Brown is utterly delightful. Maybe the most entertaining TV golf personality in the business, he truly has a gift for making golf course challenges relatable to the viewers. Such a great combination of keen observations and wonderful wit. Bravo.

4 – The man deserves your attention

Study Aaron Rai’s career. Please. So refreshing. Pretty sure you can hear the voice of John Houseman telling you how Rai “earned it.” He certainly did.

GOLF COURSE PHOTO – You know you’re at a quality golf club when they not only have a Chef Emeritus, but they have a parking spot for he or she. Cheers to Aronimink Golf Club, which last week hosted the PGA Championship, because we all know that eating well is the best remedy for a rough day on the course – and eating well is an essential way to celebrate. Should you come across a golf course that amuses or enlightens you, please send it to jim@powerfades.com

5 – Come on, you know what I mean

What’s bothering me today? Silly question, because I told her the same thing that’s been bothering me every day for decades. Missing on the low side.

6 – At least from this seat

Does anyone actually call it by its name, Shinnecock Hills? I mean, it’s Shinny . . . or Shinnecock.

7 – Unless you’re delivering mail . . .

If the post office wants to use two letters when it delivers its mail, fine. But so long as I’m at the keyboard, datelines are presented properly, total respect to the state. It’s Penn., not PA; Mass. not MA; Fla., not FL.

8 – Maine topic of conversation

Maine, of course, never gets abbreviated because . . . well, it’s Maine and it’s getting warmer and we need to get there to play some golf, and no one up there thinks ME is Maine.

9 – Think about it

In your closet, orange shirts should go between the red shirts and the yellow shirts. This is Primary Colors 101.
